My family and I picked up this book at B&N. It had two stickers on the cover: B&N Exclusive Edition which has a Q&A at the end of the book with the authors and it is the Pick of the Month by B&N.
I loved the book.
The premise of the book surrounds two siblings: an older Jakob Novis and his younger sister Elizabeth (Lizzie). Jakob works as a code breaker at Bletchley Park with John and Beryl. Lizzie is being sent to the States where her Gran lives as the Hitler and the Nazis are preparing to bomb London.
It the midst of all the fear that is going on around them, their mum has gone missing. Lizzie sets out to investigate what happened to their mum and find out if she is still alive. Without giving away anything, there are plenty of surprises, and spies and riddles and secret codes. Love, Love, Love!!!
The book explores the love of siblings and the love for one’s country.
There are many historical figures throughout the book. Turing. Even Churchill is mentioned and many of his speeches are recorded. It is historical fiction. FDR and America are mentioned and not in a good light. It took forever for us to get involved in the war, because most of the government at that time in history were in denial of the atrocities that were being perpetuated on the Jews. Very even paced with a lot of exciting twists and turns along the way. The book pulled me in immediately, because I am a WW2 history buff. It is told in the first person from both sides: Lizzie and Jakob. Which makes it very interesting the different perspectives that are given.

Pros:
Great action and suspense throughout
The bonding of the brother and sister throughout the book is well done.
Great writing and the dialogue between all the characters is great.
There weren’t any boring parts.
Cons:
Will there a be a sequel?
There is some mild profanity. I think I counted 3 curse words.

This book is great. I loved it from beginning to end. If you enjoy historical fiction this is a really great read. There are suspenseful moments at times. It’s found in the YA section. This book is suitable for children 10 and up.
I would read it again. 5 out of 5 Stars

The Professor's Commentary

This book displays loyalty to your country. Patriotism throughout. There is some lying that goes and outright disobeience from one of the lead characters. The biggest takeaway is the length someone will go for LOVE of Family.
